On a fresh install of the system, I always add several free (and some paid) programs where Windows is lacking. I&#8217;m writing this because I had to carry out a clean install of Windows 11 only a couple of weeks ago, which required reinstalling numerous programs.<\/p>\n<h2>PowerToys<\/h2>\n<p><a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/power-toys.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-149305 size-medium\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/power-toys-350x350.png\" alt=\"power-toys\" width=\"350\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/power-toys-350x350.png 350w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/power-toys-640x640.png 640w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/power-toys-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/power-toys-768x768.png 768w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/power-toys.png 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/powertoys\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PowerToys<\/a> is described by Microsoft as a set of utilities for power users to tune and streamline their Windows experience. It&#8217;s packed with over 25 tools, it&#8217;s lightweight, and sits quietly in your system tray. I use some of its functions, most of all <strong>Image Resizer<\/strong>, which gets added to the context menu when right-clicking on an image. I find it very useful for resizing my photos, which are usually around 3MB, thus too large for many websites.<\/p>\n<h2>Everything<\/h2>\n<p><a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/everything-feature.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-127252\" src=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/everything-feature.jpg\" alt=\"everything-feature-image\" width=\"350\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/everything-feature.jpg 350w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/everything-feature-150x86.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I wrote about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voidtools.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Everything<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/everything-windows-search-at-light-speed\">Everything \u2013 Windows Search At Light Speed<\/a>. I came across this tool when several games, including <strong>Battlefield V<\/strong>, were stuttering badly (a known problem), and this fixed it immediately. While File Converter is great for a quick conversion, FastStone has a host of other options for converting images, especially where the size of images (in KB) is important. You can also batch convert, straighten images, and use numerous other built-in tools.<\/p>\n<h2>7-Zip<\/h2>\n<p><a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/7zip-decompress.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-149420\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/7zip-decompress-640x212.jpg\" alt=\"7zip-decompress\" width=\"640\" height=\"212\" srcset=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/7zip-decompress-640x212.jpg 640w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/7zip-decompress-350x116.jpg 350w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/7zip-decompress-150x50.jpg 150w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/7zip-decompress-768x254.jpg 768w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/7zip-decompress.jpg 953w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are numerous compression\/decompression tools available, including WinZip, WinRAR, and, of course, Windows&#8217; own extraction function, but I prefer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.7-zip.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">7-Zip<\/a> for no other reason than it&#8217;s simple to use, it&#8217;s free, and it&#8217;s lightweight. It also opens\/extracts almost any compressed folder you can think of.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>CPU-Z<\/h2>\n<p><a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/cpuid-main.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-149423\" src=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/cpuid-main.jpg\" alt=\"cpuid-main\" width=\"403\" height=\"402\" srcset=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/cpuid-main.jpg 403w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/cpuid-main-350x349.jpg 350w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/cpuid-main-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 403px) 100vw, 403px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpuid.com\/softwares\/cpu-z.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CPU-Z<\/a> tells you almost everything you need to know about your CPU, motherboard, memory, and graphics at a glance. You can even stress test your CPU and compare it for reference. I also use it on client computers to confirm what&#8217;s inside the box.
