Microsoft is offering consumers a few methods for enabling\u00a0 Extended Security Updates (ESU). But first, you have to see a prompt in your Security and Updates window to enroll.<\/p>\n<p>To get there, do this:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Use the <strong>Windows key + I<\/strong> to open the Settings window<\/li>\n<li>Click on <strong>Update &amp; Security<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In the window that opens, make sure <strong>Windows Update<\/strong> is selected in the left column<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If your system qualifies for ESU enrollment, you should see an invitation to join the enrollment program.<\/p>\n<p>This offer was supposed to have been rolled out to consumers throughout September. As with many others, I had never seen this offer, and I was prepared to pay for <a href=\"https:\/\/0patch.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">0Patch<\/a> to provide me with security updates. He, along with Leo LaPorte, run a weekly podcast called <a href=\"https:\/\/twit.tv\/shows\/security-now\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Security Now!<\/a> I&#8217;ve been following them for years, and it is where I learned about this ESU trick in podcast #1045.<\/p>\n<p>You can check the show notes, but I will save you the time by giving you this link to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grc.com\/sn\/SN-1045-Notes.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PDF file<\/a> that has more links to follow. Windows Update is telling me that I am enrolled to get ESU. It is not October 14 yet, and I don&#8217;t know if this will still work after that date. I can&#8217;t predict the future.
