Hi all - Just had to share this with you. Call me sentimental, call me a big girls blouse...I don't care, this brought a tear to my eye and helped restore my faith in human nature:

On tonight's local news (Bundaberg, Queensland) was a story of a young man working with the mentally disabled. He is giving up his spare time, voluntarily, to help coach them in a variety of sports, predominantly basketball. The joy on their faces said it all...the young man's age, just 17...........bloomin' marvellous!!

Isn't it great when you run across a young adult who has their stuff together and seems to be on a decent path through life?

The local news here occasionally does a "feel good" story about young adults contributing in great ways to the community. I wish they did them more often. As it is I think they actually report on these items to make themselves feel better about their jobs!

Anyway, Jim, I'll stand next to you and shed a tear -

a big girls blouse? I've not heard that term.

No worries though my friend, as I share your sentiments in that it's nice to hear about stories like this, especially from the young'uns.

Ziggie -

Jim has just casually layed another Oddity From Oz upon we sheltered Yanks. I, for one, find them to be most charming. Perhaps he'd graciously offer a definition or derivation of the phrase. What say, Jimbeaux?

And Jim - thanks for the post. A whole bunch of such anecdotes just might help us to keep our heads screwed on tight.

Richard

A "sop" of the first order.

Hey Richard - I do not know the origins of the phrase 'big girl's blouse', it may even be a 'Hillierism'. It is used in a manner of mock admonishment, somewhat ironically because it infers criticism but is really quite complimentary. Usually reserved for us 'blokes' who, in a moment of weakness, reveal a more sensitive side.....you can hear the cries, "Geez, you're a big girls blouse!"

cheers now.....JIM
