I have been approached to sell my block of UPC numbers. Has anyone here had any similar experiences?

Thanks

Hey Terry,

Do you mean Universal Product Codes?

yup....I purchased mine 20-25 years ago and received 100,000 numbers with no further fees. That's not the way it is now...essentially you rent the numbers with annual fees with nowhere near 100,000.
I will sell my rights and keep a small block of numbers for my use.

Interesting! So what does a block of 100,000 UPC number bring in the open market (out of curiosity)?

Wow, nice little investment! 🙂

So, I was under the impression a UPC code was just a digital representation of a text value (i.e., store/price/etc). Is that not the case? Is the UPC code tied to a specific entity? Interesting stuff.

UPC is tied to a specific entity. Nowadays the first 6 digits. Mine is 690164. The next 5 digits are for the entity's part number or code. The last number is a "check code" which too complicated to explain here.
You can buy small groups of UPC through brokers. I dont know how they work out everything with that arrangement.

Cool! Thanks for taking the time to explain and enlighten. It's always nice to learn something new.
